As urbanisation accelerates and private vehicle ownership continues to rise, reducing transport-related greenhouse gas emissions has become an increasingly important challenge in Viet Nam. While policy measures play a critical role, empowering individuals to understand the climate impact of their daily travel is equally important for driving behavioral change.
EcoMove was developed by the ECO PTIT team, a group of young and dedicated students and IT developers, as a digital mobility application through support from the TUEWAS Innovation Fund under the umbrella of the VN-SIPA II Project. The activity involved the design, development, testing, and deployment of a digital tool that helps users measure transport-related CO₂ emissions, compare travel options, and make more sustainable commuting choices.
EcoMove works by collecting mobility data and converting it into clear and accessible carbon metrics. The application tracks journeys for motorcycles, cars, and buses, while also allowing users to manually log domestic travel by trains and airplanes. Based on travel distance and transport mode, it automatically calculates associated CO₂ emissions and presents the results in an emissions summary interface.
The application combines several innovative features in a single platform, including automatic and manual emission tracking, daily and monthly carbon reduction targets, personalised emission reports, eco-driving guidance, gamification elements, and an AI-powered chatbot that generates tailored recommendations for reducing emissions. These features help users understand the environmental impact of their travel choices and identify opportunities to reduce emissions through actions such as route optimisation, eco-driving practices, or shifting to lower-carbon transport modes.
