On 24 April 2026, the kick-off workshop of the “Viet Nam Nature-based Solutions for Adaptation in Agriculture through Private Sector Transformation” (VN-ADAPT) project was convened in Hanoi, bringing together representatives from government agencies, provincial authorities, development partners, private sector actors and international organisations.
Funded by the International Climate Initiative (IKI) of the German Government and implemented in collaboration with the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment (MAE), VN-ADAPT aims to strengthen the capacity of public and private sector actors to implement Nature-based Solutions (NbS) and foster partnerships that mobilise innovation and investment for climate-resilient agricultural development in Viet Nam.

The workshop marked the official launch of the project and provided a platform for stakeholders to exchange perspectives on climate adaptation in agriculture, the role of Nature-based Solutions and opportunities to strengthen collaboration between public and private actors. Discussions also highlighted the growing climate risks facing Viet Nam’s agricultural sector and the need to build resilience, particularly for smallholder farmers and vulnerable groups.
Speaking at the workshop, project partners emphasised that addressing increasingly complex climate challenges requires stronger partnerships, innovative approaches and greater investment in sustainable agricultural transformation. Participants also discussed how Nature-based Solutions can support adaptation while generating wider benefits for biodiversity conservation, livelihoods and sustainable economic growth.

VN-ADAPT is implemented by a consortium comprising SNV, the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN), the International Centre for Environmental Management (ICEM) and the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP). The consortium brings together extensive experience in environmental management, agriculture, climate adaptation and sustainable economic development to support long-term and scalable impact in Viet Nam.
The project focuses on promoting Nature-based Solutions, supporting diversified and climate-resilient livelihoods and engaging the private sector as a key driver of transformation. Through its collaborative approach, VN-ADAPT seeks to strengthen coordination among stakeholders and create an enabling environment for the wider adoption of climate-smart and nature-positive agricultural practices.
Participants at the workshop reaffirmed the importance of continued dialogue, knowledge sharing and coordinated action throughout project implementation. The event laid a strong foundation for collaboration among government agencies, development partners, private sector actors and implementing organisations in the years ahead.

Ms. Christie Ann Getman, Country Director, SNV Viet Nam, said: “VN-ADAPT is built on the belief that addressing climate challenges in agriculture requires strong partnerships, innovation and sustained investment. By bringing together the expertise of government, the private sector and our consortium partners, we have an opportunity to scale up Nature-based Solutions and support a more resilient future for Viet Nam’s farmers and agricultural landscapes.”
By 2029, VN-ADAPT aims to support more than 21,000 smallholder farmers, improve the sustainable management of 17,500 hectares of land, mobilise over EUR 5.7 million in public and private investment and engage more than 15,000 stakeholders across sectors. Through these efforts, the project is expected to contribute to stronger climate resilience, healthier ecosystems and more sustainable agricultural development in Viet Nam.
